Porsche Macan spied for the first time

The project was known as the Cajun until February when Porsche announced the new name and said that it is “derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.”  The Porsche Macan will extend the range of cashcows for the carbrand.

The Macan rides on the same platform as the Audi Q5 and will be built at the expanded Porsche plant in Leipzig, Germany. Power will come from engines delivered by Audi, both petrol and diesel, also to be worked over by Porsche, giving it with higher power figures then the Q5. The Macan will most likely be offered with the Hybrid-drivetrain known from the Q5, meaning a 2.0 TFSI delivering 210 horsepower combined with a 44 HP electric motor. That will help Porsche to come closer to the average CO2 goal of 130 g/km that all car manufacturers need to reach from 2015. This means it will use a four-cylinder engine, a Porsche first since the 968 went out of production.

Don’t be fooled by the ugly camouflage. Differentiating it from the Cayenne, the Macan will get quite a smooth design, no creases on the hood, a sloped back and longer overhangs. The Porsche Macan will be launched with four doors initially, but we are hearing rumors that a little later on there could be a sportier looking two door version as well.
