The new McLaren P1 hypercar concept was designed in the windtunnel, with a priority for aerodynamic performance. This leaves us with a very organic, alien-like body pulling a mindblowing downforce of 600kg. Knowing McLaren showed us just the looks as a concept at Paris and the engine and performance figures are yet to be officially released. It is said to be combined with F1 techniques such as KERS and DRS, a modified version of the 3.8 liter V8 unit found in the MP4-12C. Boosting it over 800hp at 9,000rpm from the standard setup and approximately 960hp with a next-generation Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) boost offering an additional 160hp. This will bring the new P1 to a new dimension in the world of supercars.
Along with the upcoming Porsche 918 spyder and Ferrari F70 it will be part of a new generation of iconic automotive superhero’s.
A production version will be made available within the next 12 months and the next release with figures and information will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. To see how the McLaren P1 looks roaring through the city streets, here’s a set of impressions capturing the extraterrestrial style of McLaren’s new perspective on hypercars.
