Porsche 991 Targa Spied

The Targa Is Coming…

[nggallery id=37]

We’ve seen this car drive around before disguised as a convertible,  but it is now spied with the roof .. open. We know Porsche is ditching that full glass roof for this Targa! They’re going oldskool!  Great news to Porsche enthusiasts who have been sending Porsche requests after requests to build a new Targa. It seems they listened and grabbed a convertible 991 and put a shackle on it. It’s no secret anymore! check out the video above to see it with the roof opened up.

Expect the 991 Targa for a late 2013/early 2014 release!

Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Action!

This is the brand new 2014 Porsche 991 GT3 CUP in action at Monza racetrack, just listen to that sound and shifting! Watch how fast it can go even in bad track conditions!
Truth is though , behind the wheel of car number 88 is the most successful driver in WRC history, having won the world championship a record nine times in a row, the famous and French driver;  Sebastien Loeb!

TECHNOLOGY AND CONCEPT
The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is based on the 911 series production model – a pure-bred sports car that offers an exceptional level of power and yet our engineers were able to raise it even further. How? By fighting hard for every kilogramme saved and every kilowatt added. Thanks to the weight-optimised modular racing exhaust system, the 3.8-litre flat-six engine of the new 911 GT3 Cup now produces 338 kW (460 hp). The power of the engine is transmitted to the rear axle by a racing clutch and a newly developed Porsche six-speed sequential gearbox with mechanical slip differential. The electropneumatic paddle shift system makes gear changes even faster and more efficient.

The 911 GT3 Cup is also quicker to decelerate. Fit for endurance the newly developed race brake system performs impressively and will impress rival drivers, who can now be overtaken under braking even more frequently. The stability needed is provided by the extended wheelbase – 100 mm longer than that of the predecessor – as well as the optimised chassis. [source]

Porsche 991 Turbo Unleashed

[himage]porsche_991_turbo_blue_interiorporsche_991_turbo_blue_interior[/himage]

The Porsche 911 has been with us for decades now, but just rewind 40 years back when Porsche unveiled the first 911 Turbo at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Did the Porsche superiors ever wonder what the 911 Turbo would be like 7 generations later?

With the new 991 model, the Turbo evolves into a wider more muscular car. Slighly raised and curved hips give the new Turbo a sexy look while in the back we see a clean design with with big airvents, hinting at the 918 concept design. For loyal Wild Speed followers and readers however, the 991 Turbo’s looks shouldn’t have been too much of a suprise.

More Powerful, yet more fuel efficient…

The all-new 911 Turbo boasts outrageously insane performance numbers. We’re talking 514 bhp for the Turbo and 552 bhp for the Turbo S, all from a new twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six petrol engine that’s more powerful, yet more fuel-efficient, than the 997’s engine.

So, you must be wondering what handles all of that fearful power, well what else but Porsche’s very own seven-speed PDK transmission. Porsche has opted for the PDK to be available in the 911 Turbo simply because it increases fuel efficiency and boosts performance by seamless gear changes. On the note of seamless gear shifts, the 911 Turbo’s acceleration is sublime, Porsche say the 911 Turbo can hit 62mph from naught in just 3.2 seconds and 3.1 seconds for the Turbo S. Keep your foot down enough and you’ll be hitting 197 mph.

The handling will be the golden question. Porsche has developed a four-wheel-drive system that features an electronically controlled and activated multi-plate clutch. The rear wheels can steer too for extra handling capabilities.  The Turbo S will also feature an active suspension system, active engine mounts and carbon-ceramic brakes, pushing the 911 Turbo to its extreme.

However, something very new has arrived on the 911 Turbo; Start/Stop. Yes, we all know what you’re thinking, ‘why?’. Well, a system like this seems awkward in a Porsche, but every manufacturer has to keep to very strict new emmission rules, meaning the Stuttgart engineers had to scour through a plethora of ways to increase fuel efficiency. And since you can turn the start/stop function off, it’s just a way to slightly get around the strict rules. The upside from all of this is that the 911 Turbo, unlike its predecessor, can achieve up to an EU combined fuel of 29.1 MPG, an improvement of about 16%.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo costs £118,349 for the standard model and £140,852 for the Turbo S. First customer deliveries will be in September.

991 Saga continues: Porsche 991 GT3R Testing

A new Porsche 991, most likely the fattest, but also one of the lightest to be available in somewhere in 2013, is one for the trackday purist, it is the 911 GT3R!
The 991 model range started production last year with the Carrera models, as usual. The Carrera 4(S) models followed just months ago. In the meanwhile Porsche was doing multiple testrides with the coming 991 GT3 that will be making it’s debut somewhere at the end of this year or beginning of 2013. With the arrival of the new GT3 in sight, it is time for Porsche to unleash the stripped out racing version 991 GT3 R on the testtrack.

The previous version of the GT3R, the 997, weights about 1200kg and has a power figure of 500HP. So what can we expect from this new beast?  Hard to say, but there’s little doubt  it will shed some weight and have some more power then previous models. What we can see from these photo’s are some interesting aeroparts on the fenders and bumpers. Sure most of you would agree, it looks menacing! I’m sure it will be a thrill to race with as well! Enjoy the photo’s.

And, this is Nismo’s 550HP  new race car developed in line with FIA GT3 regulations, It will be an interesting battle.

991 Saga: The GT3

With the new 991 coupe and convertible out and about, it’s time for Porsche to get it on with all the new 911 variants. We all know the Carrera’s are just the beginning. One we will see first after the Carrera4/4S models will most likely be the 991 Turbo, which has been spied in both coupe and convertible form. The track oriented 991 GT3 was also caught on the test track a few weeks ago showing a fixed, quite big,  Gt3 spoiler on the back that looks much like the one from the 997GT3 mk2.

So what can we see from these new spyshots?

Well, apart from the rear spoiler (now slightly different from the one spotted earlier) and central exhaust, not much. The car in the previous spyshots is wearing a sportier GT3 looking frontbumper whereas this just looks like a taped up Carrera bumper with fake foglights. Also the normal Carrera rear bumper on all the pics are just a part of the camouflage.

But with the quality of these pics being a bit better, the rear decklid is now more visible. This time it’s carrying a different wing on it, most likely a fake one, with fake winglets bolted on. The rear decklid could be the only production part visible on this car as the spoiler looks to emerge nicely from the classic sloping 911 curve on the back. Still resembles the one from the 997 GT3, but with a wink to the 993GT2.

We can also see the wheels are centerlocks. Nice!

Surely the 991 will be more economical whilst offering more performance, expect the 911 (991) to come closer to the 997 GT3 RS power figure of 450hp. Weight will be reduced, possibly by around 40kg. And for the gearbox you ask? The GT3 is a true drivers oriented car, so it would be a shame to ditch the manual tranny for a PDK dual clutch transmission! That’s for sure!

991 Saga: GT3 spied for the first time

With the new 991 coupe and convertible out and about, it’s time for Porsche to get on with all the new 911 variants. One we will see first after the Carrera4/4S models will most likely be the 991 Turbo, which has been spied in both coupe and convertible form. Now the track oriented 991 GT3 was caught on the test track showing a fixed, quite big, redesigned Gt3 spoiler on the back. It seems the Gt3 will also retain it’s central exhaust and sporty look, the car on the spyshots is wearing a sportier front bumper, however the rear bumper still appears to be the one from a normal Carrera with a hole cut out for the exhausts. Surely the 991 will be more economical whilst offering more performance, expect the 911 (991) to come closer to the 997 GT3 RS power figure of 450hp. Weight will be reduced, possibly by around 40kg.
